Sanand Emerging as Gujarat’s Electronics and Semiconductor Powerhouse
Gujarat is taking another major step toward becoming India’s electronics and semiconductor manufacturing leader. The state government has proposed an investment of nearly ₹460 crore to develop a dedicated Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Sanand, strengthening the region’s position as a fast-growing industrial and technology hub.
The ambitious project is expected to accelerate semiconductor and electronics manufacturing investments while creating thousands of employment opportunities in Gujarat.
What Is the Sanand Electronics Manufacturing Cluster?
The proposed Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) will be developed across approximately 91.53 hectares in the Hirapur and Charal villages of Sanand taluka in Ahmedabad district.
The project is being spearheaded by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), which has already submitted the proposal to the Union government.
The cluster aims to provide:
- Dedicated electronics manufacturing infrastructure
- Semiconductor-focused industrial facilities
- Plug-and-play industrial ecosystems
- Supply chain integration support
- Ancillary manufacturing opportunities
Officials estimate that the project could generate more than 16,000 permanent jobs once fully operational.
Why Sanand Is Becoming India’s Semiconductor Destination
Over the past few years, Sanand has rapidly emerged as one of India’s preferred manufacturing destinations, especially for:
- Semiconductor manufacturing
- Electronics production
- Automotive manufacturing
- Industrial engineering
- High-technology investments
Several major companies have already announced semiconductor and electronics-related projects in and around Sanand, including:
- Micron Technology
- Kaynes Technology
- CG Power and Industrial Solutions
These investments are transforming Sanand from an automotive hub into a broader high-tech industrial ecosystem.
Gujarat’s Semiconductor Vision
The Gujarat government is aggressively positioning the state as a semiconductor and electronics manufacturing center under India’s growing semiconductor mission.
The state believes that building a dedicated EMC will:
- Support semiconductor fabrication and packaging industries
- Strengthen electronics manufacturing supply chains
- Encourage component manufacturing
- Improve infrastructure for global technology companies
- Attract foreign direct investment (FDI)
Industry experts say Gujarat’s proactive industrial policies and faster execution capabilities give it a competitive edge over many other Indian states.
